Welcome to the second half of our skill monetization series, I can assure you that this article is your perfect guide, to mastering skill monetization, debunking the myths and unraveling the hidden gems associated with mastering balance in this ever evolving world.
So, you’ve identified your skills and realized there’s value in what you know how to do. That’s a big first step, now let’s talk about how to actually make money from those skills, without waiting for “perfect timing” or endless motivation.
Spoiler: You don’t need to have everything figured out, you just need to start!
# STEP 1: PACKAGE YOUR SKILL

People don’t just pay for talent—they pay for results. So, think about how your skill can solve a problem or meet a need, then, package it in a way that makes sense.
For example:
If you braid hair, create simple packages: full braids, cornrows, kids’ hair. If you bake, offer birthday cake bundles, snack boxes, or weekend delivery. If you teach, create short lessons, weekend coaching, or recorded content.
The tip here is to start with what you can easily deliver. Keep it simple, you can grow from there.
# STEP 2: PRICE IT RIGHT

Pricing can be tricky; too high, and people may hesitate, too low, and you undercut yourself. The key is to find a starting point that reflects your effort and time, then gradually increase as your experience and demand grow.
Here’s a quick guide to help:
Check what others in your space charge (not to copy, but to understand the market).
Consider your time, resources, and any extra costs. Don’t be afraid to charge, free forever isn’t sustainable.
You can also offer discounts for early customers, but make it clear it’s temporary.
# STEP 3: PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE

A skill that’s hidden won’t get paid, this is a truth that can not be overemphasised time and time again, you need to let people know what you do. Start with your existing network; post before-and-after photos, share testimonials. Use WhatsApp status, Instagram stories, or even Twitter threads to show your work. Tell people directly: “Hey, I now take bookings for…”
You don’t need a website, a logo, or a fancy brand name on day one, just consistency and good results.
Let’s take Tolu’s story for an example; he started writing CVs for his friends in uni. At first, he didn’t charge them, then someone told him, “Bro, I can pay you to do mine.” That ₦5,000 job turned into a side hustle. Today, he runs a small CV writing brand on Instagram alongside LinkedIn optimization as well. It started with helping one person, and saying yes to the next.
# STEP 4: STAY READY TO GROW

Once the money starts coming in, it’s easy to relax, please don’t. Keep learning, improve your skill, invest in tools or training, deliver great service. The better you get, the more you can charge—and the more people will refer you.
Also, don’t be afraid to ask for feedback, that’s how you improve and build trust.
One Final Thing—Start Small, But Start Now
You don’t need a million followers, you don’t need capital, you just need to be very intentional. One paying client today is better than ten people saying “You’re so good” but never paying you.
The people who win aren’t always the most talented—they’re the ones who showed up, served value, and kept going.
Your skill is not just a talent—it’s a tool. It can open doors, build confidence, and fund your dreams, but only if you use it.
So, what’s stopping you now?
No more overthinking, no more waiting for perfect conditions, start where you are. Use what you have, charge what you’re worth, your future self will thank you. Till I write to you again, yours in love, keep winning!
